The Audubon Name
For most people, the name "Audubon" is synonymous with birds and bird conservation.
The name "Audubon" has been in the public domain, to some extent, since the late 1800s.

Please be aware that various marketers of bird feeders, bird seed, and other products do use the name "Audubon" without having any connection to the National Audubon Society or its network of local chapters, state offices, and education centers.

For example, "Audubon International" is a non-affiliated group that offers a "sanctuary certification" program for golf courses, and residential and commercial developments.

It may be helpful to know that Saw Mill River Audubon, Audubon New York, and the National Audubon Society are not affiliated with "Audubon International".

There are over 500 local and state Audubon organizations in North America. Almost all are chapters or affiliates with the National Audubon Society, as is Saw Mill River Audubon. We share similar missions, goals, and activities and work together.

John James Audubon is the namesake of Audubon groups around the world. He attempted to paint and describe all of America's birds in life-size portraits. His collection of 435 illustrations, Birds of America,is "still a standard against which 20th and 21st century bird artists, such as Roger Tory Peterson and David Sibley, are measured."
