and Holiday Desserts
Chappaqua Library Theater
The Audubon Best Photos presentation and the holiday dessert potluck after the presentation are both free and open to the public
This annual curated presentation is always a showcase of beautiful nature images from Westchester, across New York and from around the world.
Area photographers are invited to send nature photography of birds, other wildlife, plants and landscapes and a curated show will include large screen display of selected photos and the photographers each saying a few words about their images. (We’ll have a pass around mic so photographers will speak from their seats.) Not all submitted photographs may be shown depending on show length and photo selections.
To submit photos for consideration before the December 11 deadline, use the online form below: https://www.sawmillriveraudubon.org/best-photos-2026
(You are invited to bring a holiday dessert to share at the dessert potluck, but you are also welcome to come empty-handed and just enjoy the desserts from others!)

Hudson River Schools of Art
and their Ice Age Origins
Chappaqua Library Theater
Published in March 2024 by Purple Mountain Press, The Hudson River Schools of Art and Their Ice Age Origins by Hudson Valley geologists Robert and Johanna Titus links 19th-century Hudson Valley culture to prehistoric glacial activity, showing how ice-sculpted terrain inspired America’s first major art movement, landscape architecture, and literature.
This is a good year to consider the influence of the Hudson River on American art especially with 2026 marking the 200th anniversary of the birth of Frederic Church, America’s greatest landscape artist.
Co-sponsored by and held at the Chappaqua Public Library.
Robert and Johanna Titus are, respectively, retired professors of Geology and Biology. They are best known in the Catskills as popular science writers. Over the years they have written for several regional magazines, including Kaatskill Life and Tri-County Historical Reviews. They currently write for local newspaper : the Mountain Eagle They are the authors of five books on Catskills and Hudson Valley geology. The Titus’s are frequently invited to present PowerPoint lectures on their research and have been seen on television and heard on radio.
